High potential and gifted education

HPGE Program at Delungra Public School

At Delungra Public School, our HPGE program is designed to inspire and challenge high potential and gifted learners through a variety of meaningful opportunities. We focus on nurturing each student’s unique talents and leadership skills within a supportive and engaging environment.

Students have the chance to lead through our environmental program, contributing to important sustainability projects and making a positive difference in our community. Our student leadership groups help build confidence, teamwork, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Public speaking initiatives develop students’ communication skills, enabling them to share their ideas clearly and confidently. Additionally, our students participate in a range of competitions including writing, speaking, and sport, offering further avenues to challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements.

Our students also have the opportunity to participate in regional HPGE art camps, where they join other gifted students and work alongside leading artists, broadening their creativity and artistic experience.

With personalised learning and appropriate acceleration, we tailor educational pathways to meet individual needs, ensuring every gifted learner is both supported and challenged to achieve their best.

At Delungra Public School, we are committed to fostering lifelong learners who are confident, creative, and ready to lead in the future.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

At Delungra Public School, we take a personalised and proactive approach to identifying and supporting the learning needs of our High Potential and Gifted students. Our teachers work closely with students to recognise their talents or potential talents and create meaningful opportunities for them to develop and showcase these abilities. We actively investigate and provide pathways that encourage students to explore their strengths and pursue new challenges.

Our classroom environment and school culture foster a love of learning through our effective learner program. Students engage with strategies that help them understand the characteristics of effective learning, including recognising the learning dip and how learning is processed in the brain. We enrich this culture through hands-on programs such as our gardening and environmental initiatives, including the Koalas and More Rescue programs. Additionally, students have opportunities to join leadership groups and interest-based activities, as well as access expert guidance when needed, promoting both personal growth and community engagement.

Feedback and assessment practices at Delungra are designed to support ongoing learning, providing meaningful insights that empower students to reflect and build on their achievements. Our teachers participate in ongoing, high-quality professional learning to ensure they remain skilled in best practices for supporting gifted and high-potential learners, tailoring instruction to meet diverse needs.

Through this holistic approach, Delungra Public School creates an encouraging and stimulating environment where every student is supported to flourish and reach their full potential.

Across NSW

We recognise the importance of providing a differentiated learning environment that challenges and inspires our students to reach their full academic, creative, and personal potential.

We also participate in and engage with statewide learning events and competitions, such as representative sporting opportunities, public speaking, and writing competitions. These experiences allow our gifted learners to challenge themselves, showcase their talents, and connect with like-minded peers.

We are proud to cultivate a supportive, inclusive, and stimulating environment where all students can thrive and achieve excellence. Our commitment to HPGE reflects our dedication to empowering every student to shine.
